Unfortunately, just killing the cockroaches you can see will not end the infestation. They often hide within walls, behind appliances or in dark corners, so you need to address all of them.

Some natural remedies can be effective. Essential oils such as peppermint or eucalyptus can create a hostile environment for cockroaches. Baking soda and sugar form a tasty treat that disrupts their digestive system.

There are slow-acting poisons that active cockroaches can take back to their nests and spread to get at those hidden out of sight.

While over-the-counter insecticides can eradicate an infestation, the use is best left to a professional. No one wants to make their pets ill by mistake.

If you don’t fancy using sprays, cockroach traps lure the critters in before the sticky floor holds them. These can be effective at reducing numbers and monitoring the level of an infestation.

The best approaches use a combination of products.
