4 Signs You Have A Rat & Mice Infestation In Your Home

1. Rodent Droppings

A key indicator of rodents inside your home is their droppings. Rodent droppings are dark and moist when fresh, but as they age, they become grey and crumbly. You will often find droppings under sinks and hidden areas, usually by food and in cupboards. The majority of rodent droppings are found near their nesting or feeding area, so keep an eye out for this.

2. Holes and/or Bite Marks

Rats and mice gnaw on food packaging and walls, and larger holes will typically indicate rats. Be sure to inspect all food packaging, and even check your walls and cupboards for any bite marks that could mean that you have a rodent problem.

3. Odour

Rodent urine releases foul odours that smell like stale ammonia – if you begin to notice this around your home, it might be a sign that you have an active rodent infestation. The smell of a dead rodent will similarly trigger your senses, producing a sour odour that can linger.

4. Pet Behaviour

If you own pets, namely cats and/or dogs, and notice that they have started to act abnormally, then it might be the case that they have noticed there are rats and mice in the home. They might paw or show interest in certain areas of the home and/or excessively bark.
